After many years of ministry and a lot of higher education, there is one thing about the Lord Jesus Christ that constantly leaves me confused, but yet amazed. How he loves us so much? So much that He was willing to take on flesh from infancy for thirty-three years, endure persecution and die a horrid death on a cross. In addition to this, after he takes his rightful place at the right hand of God, Jesus intercedes on our behalf eternally, while simultaneously being the Lord of our lives. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is very clear about how the Love of Jesus Christ originated in creation and remains throughout eternity. His LOVE is unlimited, with no strings attached and unconditional, but what is my response to this great love. If we could honestly take time to consider the magnitude and greatness of this love and all that it includes, our only response should be one of conviction. In and of ourselves, are we able to return the great love Jesus has imparted to us? In the gospel of John (13:34-35), He does give us instructions on what do with this great gift:
“34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
During this holiday season, give Jesus the greatest gift that you could give and obey this command intentionally. Make the choice and take the time to love as he loved us. A love that gives sacrificially and sets us apart from those without Jesus, causing them to desire His love for themselves. Allow the love of Jesus Christ to overwhelm you and overflow your life, so that you are a blessing to others.
