An old praise chorus that some of you might remember goes like this.
“I’ve got a river of life flowing
out of me.
Makes the lame to walk and
the blind to see.
Opens prison doors, sets the
I’ve got a river of life flowing
out of me.”
The other day I was reading in the Gospel of John 7: 37-38. “Jesus stood and cried out saying, ”If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, “out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
That reminded me of this little song. Then the Lord spoke to my heart and asked me the question, “Are you letting the living water of Christ flow from your life?”
We live in the Sonoran Desert, a place that without water, everything dies. Yet if you have ever flown over Phoenix in a plane you would see an amazing patchwork of green fields. How can this be? Irrigation. Water is brought to these fields to bring life to the soil.
Brothers and sisters, I am reminded that we are God’s irrigation system delivering the Living Water of the Holy Spirit to a dry and barren world. Let us be faithful and bold as the body of Christ to bring life giving, soul quenching “Living Water “ to those who so desperately need it.
Spring up oh wells, within our souls.
