God created everything that is and is ruler over His creation.
These two statements are connected, but in reality the first one is key because if God created everything then He is the ruler over that creation. Today, there are primary views on how things came to be.
1) It all evolved,
2) God created everything in six 24-hour days,
2) God created everything through evolution.
I believe 2) to be correct – God created everything in six days. This is not a conflict of science and the Bible, but is a question of how authoritative is the Bible and how confident can we be in popular scientific theories. I used to teach physics so this is a subject that I have a great deal of interest in.
Without going into all kinds of scientific arguments for creation, I just want to point out a couple of things. First, there is no theory of evolution. There are actually four theories – Darwinian, neo-Darwinian (most popular), cosmic force (think the movie Jurassic Park “Life will find a way”), and punctuated equilibrium. All four theories have a number of flaws in terms of science, jurisprudence (interpretation of evidence), logic, and statistics (possibility and/or probability). God creating everything in six days has fewer difficulties in explaining the world and the way it operates, plus that is what the Bible teaches. The idea that God created carries not only scientific, but also ethical and moral ramifications. Since we are made by Him, He has the right to determine right and wrong and the rewards and punishments for each. A denial of God as creator is based more on a desire to decide your own life and control your own destiny than on scientific facts. An acceptance of God as Creator leads you to acceptance of Him as the sovereign of His Creation.
