I can still remember all the scare of Y2K and people stocking up on food, water, and other essentials. Many feared the world would come crashing down due to computer codes only using 2 digits for the year and when it turned over to 00 anything with a computer chip would freak out thinking it was 1900. Now here we are 10 years later and no one is scared of a world-wide computer crash bringing everything down. Now we are concerned about a weak economy, a government that has no answers except more government, and most of all international problems – Iran and N. Korea becoming nuclear powers, Afghanistan, Iraq, an increasingly Muslim Europe, and of course terrorists. The real issues we always face are not technology, but the human heart. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9. We don’t need a change in technology, government, or military power. What our world needs is changed hearts.

Those two words bring lots of different images to people’s minds. For some it conjures up warm memories of a particular teacher when you were young. For others it reminds you of a boring hour spent every Sunday with a dry, dull teacher. Still others think of children learning the Bible but don’t connect Sunday School with adults. Perhaps for you the words Sunday School connect you with a difficult time in your life when your class rallied to your aid. Whatever you may think of, Sunday School is a great ministry in our church. It is a place where the Bible is studied, friendships develop, needs are met, and people come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. If you are not in a Sunday School class right now I strongly encourage you to join one this Sunday. We have classes for everyone that meet at 9:30 and 11:00. Come join us in Sunday School adventure this week!

Email Sherry Pierce for more information and to sign up!

At the mention of the word ‘evangelism’ most Christians grow weak at the knees, their heart rate rises rapidly, and they suddenly begin to perspire. They say, ‘You want me to do what? What do you mean ‘share the gospel by using actual words’? Witnessing?!’

Sound familiar? Evangelism is a subject that freaks out many in the church today. For a lot of us we have all the reasons why we ‘can’t’ get lined up: I don’t know what to say. I don’t know where to start. I don’t know enough. I don’t want to offend them. I’m no good at talking; I’m too shy, etc, etc, etc. However, the Word of God tells us that without the light of the gospel the lost will wind up in a place called ‘hell’. It begs the question, “How will they hear unless someone tells them?”

If you are in this position of wanting to reach out to a lost and dying world (wayward family members, unsaved friends, skeptical co-workers, or even that guy sitting next to you at Discount Tire) but the very prospect of doing that scares you to death. Then come join us for The Way of the Master One Day Crash Course for a time of instruction and encouragement to live for Jesus out loud.

The purpose of this class is to provide Christians with quality training in how to share the gospel effectively. This event will equip you, your family, your friends, or your church group with the necessary tools to overcome that fear of reaching out. The goal is to see believers, young and old, motivated to boldly begin a new lifestyle – a lifestyle of evangelism.

Thanks for stopping by!

A few things to expect when you visit First Baptist Chandler.

Parking – We have guest parking to in the south parking lot as well a number of handicap stalls and some parking for expecting families and families with new arrivals.
What happens to kids? – Come on in, there is time for fellowship and getting aquatinted inside our lobby. The greeters and ushers will work with you to get your children checked in securely and with the appropriate class.
Sunday school – is available for all ages. You should check with a greeter for the latest information.
Worship style – Our worship would be considered modern / contemporary. We gather in the worship center to corporately lift our song to the Lord, followed by the message from Pastor Paul Smith.

We hope to see you soon and desire to make you feel at home at First Baptist Candler. If there is anything you need please let us know.

Please sign our guestbook, this an optional way of letting us know your coming to visit, so that we may be prepared to greet you and welcome you to FBC chandler.

For more about what we believe, check out the “What we Believe” page.
