I like to tell people our summers are short in Arizona and they just look at me weird. Of course I am talking about the summer break, not the heat. Most schools around here are only out for a few weeks during the summer and so our church schedule also takes a few weeks off. I know that almost everyone at FBC leaves town some time during July or August, not just to take a vacation but, to escape the heat. School has already started for some and everyone will be back to school very soon. We are about to start up our church schedule as well. That means adult choir, children's choir, puppets, … [Read more...]

“Songs In The Night”

Here is the story. Paul and Silas, in the Greek city Philippi, while preaching the gospel of the resurrected Christ, release a young girl possessed by a demon. The men who were profiting from her “fortune telling” were mad when she could no longer make them money. They brought up charges against Paul and Silas to the two magistrates of the city, who did not even investigate the charges, but had them beaten publicly and thrown into prison because they were Jews! The prison guard was ordered to keep them securely. The jailer put them into the inner part (the most secure part) of the … [Read more...]

Love. The word brings a myriad of images to mind. Some people think of romance, others picture their car or cat, still others equate love with warm feelings inside. There are those who think of a person when they think of love - grandma, dad, spouse. This month Jerri and I celebrate 28 years of marriage. I remind her often it has been the best 28 years of her life! You know, some of those days we have not had warm feelings toward each other. Other times have not been very romantic (think changing diapers and cleaning up messes). What has kept us going strong for 28 years? Commitment. Love … [Read more...]
