Last year Bicycling Magazine surveyed its readers about their preferences. 49% prefer climbing, 18% prefer descending, and 33% prefer both. That's right - 82% of bikers like climbing as much or more than riding downhill. Why would people rather kill their legs and lungs riding a bike uphill instead of sitting and letting gravity do all the work on a downhill? I know I am one of those who prefers the climbs and the reason is because I have a sense of accomplishment when I reach the top.
