A Note from the Pastor

One of my dad’s favorite stories is about when he called to ask my mom out for the first time. My grandmother wasn’t sure she wanted her daughter to go out with one of those Smiths from the other side of town. My grandfather said “I never heard a bad word about him.” They went out, started dating, fell in love, and got married on August 30, 1963. You can do the math – 50 years of marriage.

Yes, my parents came from different backgrounds, but a shared faith in God and a shared love have kept them together and strong for half a century. Where we come from does not always determine where we are going. That is the beauty of Christianity. Jesus takes us from the road we are on and puts us on a new road with people from all kinds of backgrounds.

With my family I just want to say “Mom and Dad, Happy Anniversary!”
