Student Ministry

This past November has been a monumental month. Our youth group has seen lives changed from the inside out. We recently held a movie night to watch To Save A Life. This is a movie about a high school's star basketball player who realizes that there is more to life than girls and parties when his childhood best friend commits suicide. He turns to church, but the students are just going through the motions. They end up re-inventing each other. We studied several themes and learned about our own strengths and weaknesses. Several students opened up more than they ever have before, and many said it … [Read more...]

The beginning of the greatest story ever told

A decorated tree; gifts wrapped and tied with a bow; stockings; deer made from lights in the yard; blinking lights strung along the eaves; snow – OK, we live in the desert so forget the snow part. Christmas brings all kind of images to our minds. It should be a joyous time as we celebrate family get-togethers, food, gifts, and most of all as we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus. Stop and think about that for a moment. Jesus came into our world to save us from our sins. For everything Christmas is, most of all it is the beginning of the greatest story ever told. Take a few … [Read more...]

God created everything that is and is ruler over His creation.

notebooks

God created everything that is and is ruler over His creation. These two statements are connected, but in reality the first one is key because if God created everything then He is the ruler over that creation. Today, there are primary views on how things came to be. 1) It all evolved, 2) God created everything in six 24-hour days, 2) God created everything through evolution. I believe 2) to be correct – God created everything in six days. This is not a conflict of science and the Bible, but is a question of how authoritative is the Bible and how confident can we be in popular … [Read more...]

“Have Thine Own Way, Lord”

music

Proverbs 13:12 says “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Disappointments come to all of us in our lives, yet God can use disappointments for His appointments. Many times God helps us to re-focus on Him, to build our faith, and sometimes divert us to other opportunities. That was the situation that led to the writing of this great invitational hymn. Adelaide A.Pollard was born in Iowa during the Civil War. Her parents named her Sarah, but she did not like the name Sarah, and changed it to Adelaide. After attending the Boston School of … [Read more...]
